Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Pharmacy has organised Savitribai Phule Pune University sponsored One Day State Level Seminar on Saturday 12 th November 2016. “Current Scenario on Regulatory Affairs for Alternative Medicine”, A modernize topic was chosen for the one day state level seminar to give insight about the regulation of integrative medicine. This Seminar brought together 32 participants from all over state.
The Chief Guest of the Seminar was Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan, Professor, Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences & Director, Centre of Complementary and Integrative Health (CCIH) Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune. The Dias was shared by Principal and Convener of the seminar – Dr. N. S. Vyawahare, Co-Convener Mr. A.V. Kulkarni, Co-ordinator Mr. D. S. Shirode, General Secretary Ms. Shewata Tiwari.
The Seminar began with the opening remarks of Dr. N. S. Vyawahare, Principal Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Pharmacy, Akurdi, Pune. The overview of Seminar was expressed by the Co-Convener Mr. A. V. Kulkarni. The key note address was given by Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan, he concised about the importance of integrative medicine. He emphasized that safety as well as efficacy which are needed for integrative medicine. On this occasion, the book “Preclinical Screening of Drugs” authored by Dr. N. S. Vyawahare and Mrs. Rohini Phujari, was released by the hands of Chief Guest Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan.
The inaugural ceremony concluded with vote of thanks given by General Secretary Ms. Shewta Tiwari, Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Pharmacy, Akurdi, Pune. The other Resource persons invited for the day were Dr. Rinku Umrani, Dr. C. R. Patil, Dr. S. L. Bodhankar and Dr. Vivek Mallurwar. The First Session was started with Dr. Bhusan Patwardhan Professor, Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences & Director, Centre of Complementary and Integrative Health (CCIH) Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune deliberated on “Emerging Opportunities From Phyto Pharmaceuticals”. He highlighted the decade of drug approval with the example of statin story. He gave on insight about regulation and documentation which are needed for herbal medicine. Dr. Rinku umrani, Scientist, Agharkar Research Institute, Pune spoke on “Anti-diabetic activity of Jasada bhasma, an Ayurvedic medicine”. She highlighted the reverse pharmacology of alternative medicine. She discussed about the case studies on Anti diabetic activity of Jasada bhasma with respect to isolation, Clinical and toxicity studies.
Dr. C. R. Patil, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacology, R. C. Patel Institute of Pharmacy Education and Research, Shirpur covered various aspects on “Regulatory Concerns for Alternative Medicines: An Academic Perspective”. He shared his views on knowledge in scientific regulatory review and spoke on various globalization challenges in the field of drug discovery. Dr. S. L. Bodhankar, Professor, BVDU’S Poona College of Pharmacy, Pune covered on “Globalization challenges to standardization of Alternative medicines”. He discussed the steps which are involved in clinical trials and briefed about the reasons for herbal drug interaction. He concluded his speech with problems which are veneered by herbal medicine manufacturer. Dr. Vivek Mallurwar Manager, R&D (Formulation development) at Rubicon Research, Mumbai, Maharashtra, spoke on “ Real Need of Standardization of Alternative medicine ” He expressed his views on Standardization of Alternative Medicine and ICMR guidelines for safety on products of Integrative System of medicine.
